A Taste of the Figure in Acrylic
NICHOLAS PEARCE
This two day intensive painting workshop for artists at all levels is designed to give you a taste of the techniques that Nicholas has developed over his 26-year painting career. You will be guided from drawing the image onto a black canvas using the ancient technique of squaring, through painting with a limited palette and using just one brush to create the myriad acrylic effects, to washes of colour that paint the atmosphere. This class is about passion both for the figure and for how acrylic paint can capture that beauty.

Painting the Large Canvas in Acrylic
ALISON WATT
This three day acrylic workshop is designed to help you get past the "I hate this painting" stage (which usually kicks in after about a day of work, when we might be tempted to start over or stack the painting in a closet). You will learn how to bring the canvas through several layers, working with colour, compostion, and surface, to completion. The student may bring their own image as a starting point for the painting or work from ideas provided by workshop material. The aim is to stray from strict realism into the semi-abstract or abstract.

Oct 18-19 (2008): The Magic of Precious Metal Clay
Precious Metal Clay can be rolled, cut,
imprinted with designs, carved and manipulated in a manner similar
to clay. After firing, the silver piece can be polished, hammered,
antiqued and worked into a jewellery design to create a uniqued work
of art. In our two-day workshop, we worked with this amazing material
to construct a unique pair of earrings and a necklace designed entirely
by each of us. Linda Rajotte talked about design, colour and composition
while teaching you wire-wrapping techniques and use of precious stones
to enhance your finished creation. Perhaps the most important thing
is that we had fun and enjoyed the process: "There are no mistakes,
only pleasant surprises."

April 12-13 (2008): Surfacing - A Workshop in Acrylics
A workshop by Alsion Watt (www.alisonwatt.ca). One of the challenges of painting with acrylic is to avoid a flat "paint-by-number" look. The goal was to create lively surfaces which draw the eye closer, even when the passage is large (eg. a sky, a wall). In this workshop, students worked on canvas with simple compositions (eg. still life, abstract), creating interesting surfaces with layering and glazing, resist, escritura, and subtle colour transitions. Texture was also introduced using applied papers and acrylic media such as modeling, molding pastes and gels.
Alison will be returning to Jupiter Ranch in 2010

else. With your organization and readiness for us, it was such a
